Eternal Life in Christ

“The eternal life which God offers is His Son. There is no other life. Burge explains: “Eternal life is not the by-product of some enlightenment or knowledge acquired mystically. Eternal life is historically anchored in what we may call the scandal of particularity unique to Christianity. The life of God has been channeled to us through a historical event, an event that John says has been verified by people who saw it” ” -Sam Storms

  1. It is a shame that still today so many Christians do not want to believe this only begotten son of God is the Way to God. They prefer to keep to human doctrines which have made Jesus in to their god, instead of worshipping the Only One True God of Israel, the God of Abraham, isaac, Jacob, Jesus and his disciples.

    • therev2011 says:

I agree with you that Jesus is the way to God, but not if you are suggesting this to the exclusion of the deity of Jesus.

      • According to the Scriptures there is only One True God ,Who is the God of fods who does not tell lies and declared the man standing in the river Jordan to be His only begotten son, and never said it was Himself ro an incarnation of Himself. The idea of an incarnation according Himself is even an abomination in His eyes and we never should try to be in contact with deceased beings.

      • You may never forget there is a big difference between being divine or godly like and being the Divine or to be the God. The same as the difference being a god and The God. Jesus was a highly place person (a god) like Moses, Pharaoh, are called gods the same as angels, Apollo, Zeus and many others, but those where or are, like Jesus, not The God.

      • therev2011 says:

In your view, what is Jesus, a mere human? An angel?

      • According to the bible Jesus is the son of man, born out of the virgin Mary (Miryam/Myriam/Maria) from the tribe of King David.

Angels are celestial beings, created before Jesus, who only came to be part of this world some two thousand years ago (being born in 4 bce).

It was by God’s Power (the Holy Spirit) that the promised seed, the ancient of days, promised in the Garden of Eden, was implanted in the virgin Mary. It was this man who was going to fulfil god’s Will (and not his own) to be brought up before the One and Only True God of gods, Jehovah, to be given rulership and dignity and kingdom. (Daniel 7:13-14; Matthew 10:23)

Isaiah 9:6 The Scriptures 1998+ (6) For a Child shall be born unto us, a Son shall be given unto us, and the rule is on His shoulder. And His Name is called Wonder, Counsellor, Strong Ěl, Father of Continuity, Prince of Peace.

It was that what God had said in the Garden of Eden = God His Speaking = God His Word, that became into the flesh and as such came into existence.

John 1:14 The Scriptures 1998+ (14) And the Word became flesh and pitched His tent1 among us, and we saw His esteem, esteem as of an only brought-forth of a father, complete in favour and truth. Footnote: 1An indication that His birth was during the Festival of Booths.

John 3:16 The Scriptures 1998+ (16) “For Elohim so loved the world that He gave His only brought-forth Son, so that everyone who believes in Him should not perish but possess everlasting life.

Hebrews 1:2 The Scriptures 1998+ (2) has in these last days spoken to us by the Son, whom He has appointed heir of all, through whom also He made the ages,1 Footnote: 1John 1:3.

That son of man, is also declared by God to be the son of Him (Jehovah God)

Luke 1:30-35 The Scriptures 1998+ (30) And the messenger said to her, “Do not be afraid, Miryam, for you have found favour with Elohim. (31) “And see, you shall conceive in your womb, and shall give birth to a Son, and call His Name יהושע .1 {Jehsua} Footnote: 1Mt. 1:21. (32) “He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Most High. And יהוה {Jehovah} Elohim shall give Him the throne of His father Dawiḏ. (33) “And He shall reign over the house of Yaʽaqoḇ forever, and there shall be no end to His reign.”1 Footnote: 1Verses 32 and 33 confirm the prophecies Ps. 2, Ps. 89:14-34, Isa. 9:7, Isa. 16:5, Jer. 23:3-6, Jer. 30:9, Ezek. 37:24, Dan. 2:44, Dan. 7:18-27, Mic. 5:2-4, Acts 1:6-7, Rev. 11:15. (34) And Miryam said to the messenger, “How shall this be, since I do not know a man?” (35) And the messenger answering, said to her, “The Set-apart Spirit shall come upon you, and the power of the Most High shall overshadow you. And for that reason the Set-apart One born of you shall be called: Son of Elohim.

Luke 3:21-22 The Scriptures 1998+ (21) And it came to be, when all the people were immersed, יהושע also being immersed, and praying, the heaven was opened, (22) and the Set-apart Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven saying, “You are My Son, the Beloved, in You I did delight.”

Luke 9:34-35 The Scriptures 1998+ (34) And as he was saying this, a cloud came and overshadowed them. And they were afraid as they entered the cloud. (35) And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My Son, the Beloved. Hear Him!”

Matthew 17:5 The Scriptures 1998+ (5) While he was still speaking, see, a bright cloud overshadowed them. And see, a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My Son, the Beloved, in whom I did delight. Hear Him!”

Matthew 27:43 The Scriptures 1998+ (43) “He trusted in Elohim, let Him rescue Him now if He desires Him, for He said, ‘I am the Son of Elohim.’ ”

After that man had been tempted many times (God cannot be tempted but Jesus was) he was beaten up, tortured and really killed, though angels and God are not being of flesh and blood, Jesus had real blood and flesh, and could be seen by man whilst man can not see God and live. After Jesus was killed and put in a grave (sheol=hell, where he stayed three days) he was taken out of the dead and appeared to others showing his wounds in the flesh toproof he was no spirit.

Luke 24:36-40 The Scriptures 1998+ (36) And as they were saying this, יהושע {Jeshua} Himself stood in the midst of them, and said to them, “Peace to you.” (37) And being startled and frightened, they thought they had seen a spirit. (38) And He said to them, “Why are you troubled? And why do doubts arise in your hearts? (39) “See My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself. Handle Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see I have.” (40) And saying this, He showed them His hands and His feet.

God and angels as celestial beings are spirits which do not have flesh and bones as you see Jesus had.

      • therev2011 says:

I appreciate the response, but it seems like you are changing definitions.

Earlier you had said, Jesus was just a man, now you are saying he was more than a man.

Could help me understand what exactly you believe about Jesus in a sentence or two?

Also, could you provide a biblical defense of ‘god-like’ beings? I can’t think of passage that teach this concept.

      • Jesus was really a man but he was much more than any ordinary man. Most people do not manage to do the will of God, but this man who is the promised Messiah did manage to do the Will of God. He was spectacular because he also put himself aside for others. He even when very tired did not mind to go again to other people and to help them. He had an eye ad an ear for all, believers, non believers, whores, respectable men and women, but also for despised people. He always wanted to help others and even the one who was there in front of him to arrest him he helped to put his ear back on after it was cut off by one of his disciples. Can you find many people do such a thing when they are attacked.

Jesus also did many special things which belong to the unbelievable, like making lamb to walk again or deaf and mute to hear and speak agin. All those mircacles he could do not of his own but because God gave him the possibility to do that. He is also the man who got the authority form God to speak in God’s Name and to do those miracles.

Though Jesus knew very well he could not do anything without God, he was not afraid to say so and never wanted the honour to himself but always said it was from Him Who is greater than Jesus.

John 5:25 The Scriptures 1998+ (25) “Truly, truly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of Elohim. And those having heard shall live.

John 5:19 The Scriptures 1998+ (19) Therefore ????? responded and said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son is able to do none at all by Himself, but only that which He sees the Father doing, because whatever He does, the Son also likewise does.

John 5:30 The Scriptures 1998+ (30) “Of Myself I am unable to do any matter. As I hear, I judge, and My judgment is righteous, because I do not seek My own desire, but the desire of the Father who sent Me.

John 8:28 The Scriptures 1998+ (28) So יהושע said to them, “When you lift up the Son of Adam, then you shall know that I am He, and that I do none at all of Myself, but as My Father taught Me, these words I speak.

John 9:4 The Scriptures 1998+ (4) “It is necessary for Me to work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day – night is coming, when no one is able to work.

We are all created in the image of God. So also Jesus. But he was more special than us because he managed to stay sinless, by always doing the will of God. In this way Jesus is divine, but not the Divinity, something totally different. (I also have a divine wife but be sure she is not God.)

In a very short sentence said what I believe Jesus is:

I believe in Jesus the sent one from God to be the promised Messiah who died for the sins of all people and was resurrected by his heavenly Father, the Only One True God, to come to be seated next to Him (Jehovah God) to be the high-priest and mediator between God and man.

      • You write “it seems like you are changing definitions. ” Where were definitions changed?

      • We should believe the one Who has sent Jesus and we should believe in Jesus, believing what his heavenly Father says about Himself and about this sent one, (Jesus) who also talks about his heavenly Father and that we should believe in him who did the works of his Father in heaven.

John 5:20-27 The Scriptures 1998+ (20) “For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all that He Himself does. And greater works than these He is going to show Him, in order that you marvel. (21) “For as the Father raises the dead and makes alive, even so the Son makes alive whom He wishes. (22) “For the Father judges no one, but has given all the judgment to the Son, (23) that all should value the Son even as they value the Father. He who does not value the Son does not value the Father who sent Him. (24) “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me possesses everlasting life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life. (25) “Truly, truly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of Elohim. And those having heard shall live. (26) “For as the Father possesses life in Himself, so He gave also to the Son to possess life in Himself, (27) and He has given Him authority also to do judgment, because He is the Son of Aḏam.

        John 3:16 The Scriptures 1998+ (16)
“For Elohim so loved the world that He gave His only brought-forth Son, so that everyone who believes in Him should not perish but possess everlasting life.

Please come to believe in Jesus to be the son of God and to be the Messiah, our Saviour.

John 3:18 The Scriptures 1998+ (18) “He who believes in Him is not judged, but he who does not believe is judged already, because he has not believed in the Name of the only brought-forth Son of Elohim.

  2. Marcus Ampe says:

Jesus according to the Scriptures, the Word of God, Who never tells lies, is the only begotten son of God, the sent one from God, and not God himself.

    • therev2011 says:

In your view, what is Jesus if he is not God? Is he a mere man that enjoys a closer relationship to God than anything else? Is he an angel?

      • Marcus Ampe says:

Jesus for me is what or whom he is talked about in the Holy Scriptures, the sent one from God, the mediator between God and man, the highpriest for us to God, and last but not least, the promised Messiah, the bringer of peace who fulfilled God’s Wishes, putting his own will aside to do God His Will, and proving that a man is able to follow God His Commandments.

Jesus is the restorer of the communication with God and the restorer of mankind’s relationship with God.

Jesus is the most important high person (a god, like Moses, Pharaoh, angels, Baal, Apollo, Zeus are called gods but are not the God of gods) whose words we should belief and follow. He showed us the Way to God and not the way to himself. He was humbly enough never to say it was him who did those miraculous things, but always reminded the onlookers that everything he did was because God allowed him to do so. He has namely received authority from the God Who is greater than Jesus and to Whom Jesus learned us to pray to as “Our Father”.

“17 ¶ But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh even until now, and I work. 18 For this cause therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only brake the sabbath, but also called God his own Father, making himself equal with God. 19 Jesus therefore answered and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father doing: for what things soever he doeth, these the Son also doeth in like manner. 20 For the Father loveth the Son, and showeth him all things that himself doeth: and greater works than these will he show him, that ye may marvel. 21 For as the Father raiseth the dead and giveth them life, even so the Son also giveth life to whom he will. 22 For neither doth the Father judge any man, but he hath given all judgment unto the Son; 23 that all may honor the Son, even as they honor the Father. He that honoreth not the Son honoreth not the Father that sent him. 24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth him that sent me, hath eternal life, and cometh not into judgment, but hath passed out of death into life. 25 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour cometh, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God; and they that hear shall live. 26 For as the Father hath life in himself, even so gave he to the Son also to have life in himself: 27 and he gave him authority to execute judgment, because he is a son of man. 28 Marvel not at this: for the hour cometh, in which all that are in the tombs shall hear his voice, 29 and shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of judgment. 30 I can of myself do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is righteous; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of him that sent me. 31 ¶ If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true. 32 It is another that beareth witness of me; and I know that the witness which he witnesseth of me is true. 33 Ye have sent unto John, and he hath borne witness unto the truth. 34 But the witness which I receive is not from man: howbeit I say these things, that ye may be saved. 35 He was the lamp that burneth and shineth; and ye were willing to rejoice for a season in his light. 36 But the witness which I have is greater than [that of] John; for the works which the Father hath given me to accomplish, the very works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me.” (John 5:17-36 ASV)

“27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful. 28 ¶ Ye heard how I said to you, I go away, and I come unto you. If ye loved me, ye would have rejoiced, because I go unto the Father: for the Father is greater than I. 29 And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe. 30 I will no more speak much with you, for the prince of the world cometh: and he hath nothing in me; 31 but that the world may know that I love the Father, and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence.” (John 14:27-31 ASV)

I believe that God never tells lies and that Jesus did not sin and as such also did not tell lies. Jesus without hesitation also told the truth about himself a man of flesh and blood, God, a Spirit without flesh and bones, and the world, a place of sinful people.

It is for our sins that Jesus gave up his life and after he was tempted more than once and was beaten up, really died (remember God can not be tempted nor die, nor can man do anything to God). By the resurrection, after Jesus had spent three days in hell (what would god have to look there for?) Jesus was taken out of the dead as an example for what can happen to us in case we accept Jesus as our saviour and omit ourselves to God.

Please believe in him, who is sent by God to declare the wonders of The God Most High, the almighty Elohim Hashem Jehovah, Who declared Jesus to be His only begotten son, and not to be Him, Who cannot be seen by man without this person falling death.
Listen to what the Holy or Set Apart Scriptures say to mankind:

“30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favor with God. 31 And behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. 32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Most High: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: 33 and he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. 34 And Mary said unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? 35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Spirit shall come upon thee, and the power of the Most High shall overshadow thee: wherefore also the holy thing which is begotten shall be called the Son of God.” (Luke 1:30-35 ASV)

“21 ¶ Now it came to pass, when all the people were baptized, that, Jesus also having been baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened, 22 and the Holy Spirit descended in a bodily form, as a dove, upon him, and a voice came out of heaven, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased. 23 And Jesus himself, when he began [to teach], was about thirty years of age, being the son (as was supposed) of Joseph, the [son] of Heli,” (Luke 3:21-23 ASV)

“But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I heard from God: this did not Abraham.” (John 8:40 ASV)

“44 Ye are of [your] father the devil, and the lusts of your father it is your will to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and standeth not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father thereof. 45 But because I say the truth, ye believe me not.” (John 8:44-45 ASV)

“Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end have I been born, and to this end am I come into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.” (John 18:37 ASV)

“9 Herein was the love of God manifested in us, that God hath sent his only begotten Son into the world that we might live through him. 10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son [to be] the propitiation for our sins.” (1 John 4:9-10 ASV)

“He that believeth on the Son hath eternal life; but he that obeyeth not the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abideth on him.” (John 3:36 ASV)

“And in none other is there salvation: for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, wherein we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12 ASV)

“On the morrow he seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold, the Lamb of God, that taketh away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29 ASV)

“To him bear all the prophets witness, that through his name every one that believeth on him shall receive remission of sins.” (Acts 10:43 ASV)

“38 [even] Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed him with the Holy Spirit and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him. 39 And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the country of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom also they slew, hanging him on a tree. 40 Him God raised up the third day, and gave him to be made manifest, 41 not to all the people, but unto witnesses that were chosen before of God, [even] to us, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.” (Acts 10:38-41 ASV)

      • Marcus Ampe says:

Jesus is not an angel but a man who grow in the womb of the virgin Mary (Myriam/Maria). He was the promised reigner who would come out of Bethlehem and out of the tribe of King David. He is the seed of Abraham, the seed of David, the son of man and the son of God.

Jesus is that promised man, who would bring salvation unto the whole world. He was no angel and even lower than angels but was made higher after he gave himself as a ransom for all.

“7 Thou madest him a little lower than the angels; Thou crownedst him with glory and honor, And didst set him over the works of thy hands: 8 Thou didst put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he subjected all things unto him, he left nothing that is not subject to him. But now we see not yet all things subjected to him. 9 But we behold him who hath been made a little lower than the angels, [even] Jesus, because of the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that by the grace of God he should taste of death for every [man].” (Hebrews 2:7-9 ASV)

Thank you for your response. How do you understand passages that speak of Jesus’ pre-existence?

        I’m thinking of passages like:

John 1:1-5, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”

John 11:27, “She said to him, “Yes, Lord; I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who is coming into the world.”

John 3:13, “13 No one has ascended into heaven except he who descended from heaven, the Son of Man.”

John 6:33, “For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”

John 6:38, “For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me.”

John 8:58, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.”

John 17:5, “And now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had with you before the world existed.”

Philippians 2:5, “Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus,[a] 6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.”

Hebrews 1:8, “8 But of the Son he says,
“Your throne, O God, is forever and ever,
the scepter of uprightness is the scepter of your kingdom.

        You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness;
therefore God, your God, has anointed you
with the oil of gladness beyond your companions.”

Jude 5, “5 Now I want to remind you, although you once fully knew it, that Jesus, who saved a people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe.”

1 Corinthians 10:2-4, “and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, 3 and all ate the same spiritual food, 4 and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual Rock that followed them, and the Rock was Christ.”

        etc, etc.

Curious to hear your thoughts. Thanks!

      • Marcus Ampe says:

The passage of John is talking about God speaking. The Word is the result of some one speaking. The apostle John who wanted to write his gospel in the same manner as Moses in his Pentateuch, uses the same thought “god spoke” and “it came into being”. God had spoken in the Garden of Eden, He had made His promise concerning a solution against the wrong going of man. That solution against the curse of death was the sent one from God, Jeshua , the promised Messiah, who came into being some two thousand years ago. God had spoken (given His Word) and this Word came into being. Jesus becoming in the flesh like God had said on several occasions that this would happen (prophesies in Daniel, Isaiah, Micah, Zachary a.o.)

John 11:27 does not tell anything about a pre-existing of Jesus neither of him being God. The opposite it declares clearly who Jesus is: that promised son of man, son of David who is the son of God. (Son of God and not god the son!)

John 3:13 tells us that Jesus was taken up into the skies and came to be from that same place, because ti is the Most High God, Who already knew about this man before Abraham was born and before we were born, like he knew already about us before Abraham was born, we being notated in the Book of life and death. Jesus descended from heaven, because he was placed by the Power of God (the Holy Spirit) in the womb of the young girl Miriam/Mary/Maria to become the Son of Man.

I have no idea where you get it from that Jude 5 and 1 Corinthians 10:2-4 would tell us that Jesus existed already before he was born. You seem to miss the figurative of we having to drink from the rock (Jesus Christ) having to be build strongly and standing on that rock in the ground swell not afraid to fall, but believing in him who was sent by God and who is now the mediator between God and man.

On my Christian sites, as well on many others their sites, you may find several articles explaining the non-pre-existing of Christ. Perhaps you can have a look at them to get a better understanding.

Course, we could also add to the discussion, the verse referred to in this post. 1 John 1:2 that says that Jesus is Eternal Life that was with the Father. That seems to imply that Jesus was more than just a human at birth.

    • In God’s mind there was straight ahead a solution; God knowing everything knew already Jesus from the beginning of times, the same as He knows us and like we are written in the Book of life and death as wele as those who come after us, though they like us or Jesus were not there before God created Adam. the second Adam, Jesus came only into existence in a much later stadium of the world evolution and world history.

  4. John 6:40 The Scriptures 1998+ (40) “And this is the desire of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him should possess everlasting life. And I shall raise him up in the last day.”

John 6:47 The Scriptures 1998+ (47) “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me possesses everlasting life.

John 8:51 The Scriptures 1998+ (51) “Truly, truly, I say to you, if anyone guards My Word he shall never see death at all.”
