What It Means to Call The Church A “Family”

“…All Christians–whether unmarried or married, whether having children or not– ought to do their part, by God’s grace, to make Christ’s church the sort of place that does indeed provide a new and better family here and now for believers, a community that not just theoretically but in practice loves, serves, and encourages one another in whatever situation they find themselves. The church so frequently falls into the temptation, often under the pious guise of being ‘family friendly,’ to treat marriage and children-bearing as normal and singleness and childlessness as strange, and to leave the unmarried and childless either to find their own outlets for fellowship or to accommodate themselves somehow to the happy parents’ child-centric forms of fellowship.” -David VanDrunen
